The Indianapolis 500, better known as the Indy 500 or the Indianapolis 500 – Mile Race or just The 500 is said to be the Greatest spectacle in Racing. It is an American automobile race, held every year on the Memorial Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. It gets it name from the Indy Cars open wheel race cars that compete in it.
This is one of the biggest motor sport events in the world, the official estimation of the people attending is not given but according to estimates more than 4,00,000 people come to watch the Indy 500 every year. However, the organizers say that these seats for this years Indy 500 are filling up fast and the organizers say that enthusiasts should go ahead and book their tickets before they are sold out.
This time it's the 100th race taking place, which in itself is a huge achievement for the Indy 500. The entries for the 500 Mile Race were due by 6 April.

British female IndyCar driver Pippa Mann completed her first test at Texas Motor Speedway with Conquest Racing. She got up to speed quickly, wasting no time running laps and producing competitive times as she steadily extracted more and more from the car.

A fuel pump issue interrupted the running, but her team got the problem resolved fast and they were able to resume the test. Pippa is a Firestone Indy Lights race winner, but this was her first official rookie test in Texas. She passed without problem, saying that it was a very good day for her given that she was nervous at the start but was able to get comfortable with the car and track quickly. She loved everything about driving the IndyCar and is excited about the prospects for the upcoming season, as she works to put together a full oval program for 2011.


2011 last season for Firestone Brand in Indy 500

Al Speyer, executive director of Bridgestone Firestone Racing announced that the brand will not enter the next Indy 500. Since last 21 years, Bridgestone has been a part of the Indy 500; 16 times as part of exclusive deals. It has 61 wins in Indy 500 and Speyer said that they've accomplished everything they had wanted at Indy 500.

Indy 500 needs to quickly find a suitable replacement for the next season. CEO Randy Bernard has started discussions with Goodyear, Hoosier, Cooper, Avon, Continental and Pirelli to find a suitable partner to replace Bridgestone.

Bridgestone is leaving Indy 500 after it could not reach agreement with the organizers on how to continue the program. Bridgestone's departure also puts into jeopardy the future of its 44 hourly and 22 salary employees working at its IndyCar facility in Akron.
